"The New York Times is a newspaper that consistently publishes false blood libels against the State of Israel, often based on 'anonymous' sources."
Why It’s Conflation
The Times ran a story about activists on a Gaza-bound flotilla saying Israeli forces mistreated them at sea. Akunis, Israel's consul general in New York, ordered his own consulate to cancel its Times subscription over it and said the paper "consistently publishes false blood libels" about Israel. A news report about how the military handled a blockade got labeled with a term for a centuries-old antisemitic myth.
What Actually Happened
The New York Times published an article featuring Gaza-bound flotilla activists who said they were beaten, shot with rubber bullets, and verbally abused by Israeli soldiers and guards after Israel intercepted their attempt to breach its naval blockade.
