Why It’s Conflation
Mamdani posted a video calling Netanyahu a "war criminal" running a "genocide" in Gaza and pushed the U.S. to enforce the ICC's arrest warrant against him. Akunis, Israel's consul general in New York, called that "blood libels against Israel" and part of Mamdani's "antisemitic record." Pushing to enforce a war-crimes warrant became, in Akunis's framing, antisemitism.
What Actually Happened
Mayor Mamdani posted a video calling Prime Minister Netanyahu a "war criminal" and the "architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people," and urged the federal government to arrest Netanyahu under the ICC warrant, while acknowledging his own administration has no legal authority to enforce it.
