Why It’s Conflation
The ad listed subjects a scholar of Palestine might study. Genocide and apartheid are terms from international law, and scholars argue about whether they apply. The governor treated the list itself as antisemitic and had a public college take the ad down within hours.
What Actually Happened
The job posting was for "a historically grounded scholar who takes a critical lens to issues pertaining to Palestine including but not limited to: settler colonialism, genocide, human rights, apartheid, migration, climate and infrastructure devastation, health, race, gender, and sexuality."
