"Rep. Tlaib's well-earned title reflects a long history of antisemitism, but her statements in the wake of Hamas's October 7 attacks were particularly unconscionable." And: "Tlaib not only victim-blamed Israel, but she also accused it of committing genocide against the Palestinians and continues to defend calls to ethnically cleanse Israel of Jews and genocide."

Why It’s Conflation

Rez's evidence is that Tlaib blamed Israeli policy for the conditions behind the attack and accused Israel of genocide. Both are claims about a government. Rez also says Tlaib defends calls to cleanse Israel of Jews. That’s Rez's reading of a slogan Tlaib says means freedom and coexistence. The poll put a member of Congress on a ballot with the leader of Hamas, and she "won."

What Actually Happened

In an Oct. 8 statement, Tlaib blasted the "apartheid government" of Israel and called for "lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance."
